The Rose & Crown

The Rose & Crown is a traditional London-style gastropub on Grey Street at South Brisbane, directly across from the South Bank Parklands. It is one of the more genuinely dog-welcoming pubs in the precinct: the footpath seating out the front takes dogs and the venue keeps water bowls and treats on hand for them, which is more than most city pubs manage.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you at the outdoor footpath tables out the front of the heritage building; inside is people only. Keep your dog leashed and settled beside the table. Water bowls are readily available and the kitchen has been known to hand out the occasional treat, so your dog is looked after while you eat. Weekend evenings and Sunday roast hours fill the footpath, so a weekday visit or an early sitting is the relaxed option with a dog in tow. The vibe

The pub pours what it calls the only hand-pulled cask ale in Queensland, alongside taps like Guinness and a lineup of British imports. The food is homemade pub fare with a British accent, and the Sunday roast, complete with Yorkshire pudding, is the dish regulars come back for. There is live music some nights and the room leans lively and informal. Hours run from midday Monday to Thursday, to midnight on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday service from 11:30am to 8pm.

Getting there and parking

The pub is at 275 Grey Street, South Brisbane, between the Flight Centre building and the Emporium Hotel, with South Bank train station and busway effectively at the door. Metered street parking on Grey Street and the side streets is short and limited, so the South Bank car parks and nearby Secure Parking stations are the reliable options, and booking parking online is usually cheaper.

While you're out there

The South Bank via Clem Jones Promenade walk starts across the road and makes the natural riverside leg-stretch, and the Bicentennial Bikeway continues the river loop. Orleigh Dog Park at West End gives your dog an off leash run, and The Plough Inn is the other dog-friendly pub in the precinct.
