Catchy Fish and Chips is the rebranded Swannies By The Sea, a beachy fish and chip shop in Safety Bay that has kept the relaxed coastal approach to dogs: they are welcome in the outdoor and shaded undercover seating, close to the Safety Bay foreshore. Dinner runs from 4pm on weeknights with longer 11:30am starts on weekends.

The dog setup

Dogs are permitted in the outdoor and shaded undercover seating, which is where most owners end up anyway; some listings also note dogs inside, but treat outdoor as the reliable option and the staff will look after you there. Bring a water bowl as a backup since bowls are not guaranteed at every table. Weekend lunch is the busiest stretch, so a weeknight visit is the calmer choice for a dog that prefers room to settle.

The food

The reputation rests on fresh, lightly battered fish that is not oily: snapper, barramundi and dhu fish bites, which fans have nicknamed the popcorn chicken of the sea, plus squid rings, scallop roes and generous chips. Pineapple fritters and gelato handle dessert, and the Kiwi hotdog covers anyone in the group who is not there for seafood. Takeaway is the classic play, eaten at a foreshore table or straight on the beach grass.

Getting there and parking

The shop sits in the Safety Bay shops near the Safety Bay Road strip, with free parking in the on-site lot and on the surrounding streets, and wheelchair-accessible access. It is a short stroll from the Safety Bay foreshore, so parking once and walking to both dinner and the water is easy.

While you're out there

The Safety Bay foreshore beach is a City of Rockingham dog exercise area along the gazetted stretch between the Bent Street and Donald Drive boat ramps, with dogs under effective control and a careful eye on kitesurfers near The Pond. If you are making a chippy night of it, Bayside Fish Shack is the other dog-friendly option in Safety Bay, and Rowdy's Cafe in Rockingham extends the run.
