Ostro Eatery sits on Rockingham Beach Road, a short roll back from the water, and it opens early and often: 6:30am to 3pm, every day of the week. That seven-day breakfast-and-lunch rhythm, plus the ocean view from the outdoor tables, makes it the anchor stop on a Rockingham beach morning. Parking runs along Rockingham Beach Road and the side streets, with the foreshore a couple of minutes away on foot. Bring the dog straight from the car; the alfresco fills through the morning and early arrival keeps the pick of the tables.

This is one of the few places in the area that treats dogs as guests rather than an afterthought. The venue's own announcement sets the policy: dogs are welcome in the outdoor alfresco, and there is a puppy menu with puppicinos and treats so the dog gets an order of its own. Because it comes from the venue itself, you can plan on it; the only judgement call is the usual alfresco etiquette on a busy weekend.

The vibe

The menu runs well past cafe standard: chilli eggs, a hashbrown stack, savoury waffles and eggs benedict at breakfast, moving into steak sandwiches for lunch. The ocean view is the constant, and a large review base rates it strongly for both food and setting. With 6:30am opening, the first seating is the calm one; by late morning the alfresco fills with families, so a dog that settles under the table earns its puppicino.
