Whistlestop

Whistlestop at 88 Pimpama-Jacobs Well Road is the kind of sprawling, family-built venue the northern Gold Coast does well: a cafe and restaurant with a drive-through coffee window on one side and a grassed Farmyard area on the other. It trades 7am to 2pm Tuesday to Sunday and closes Mondays, so the crowd peaks hard on weekends.

Dogs are welcomed in the outdoor courtyard and the Farmyard, with well-behaved dogs on a lead and puppycinos for the four-legged guests. Visitors and the venue's own social posts both show dogs settled in happily, and staff keep water up to them on busy mornings. Lead up, mind the kids on the grass, and there is plenty of room for everyone.

The vibe

Breakfast is the engine room: bacon and egg rolls, eggs benedict and pancakes cover the classics, pizza and cocktails stretch it towards lunch, and the drive-through keeps commuters moving without joining the car park queue. Reviews mention wait times at peak, which tells you more about the popularity than the kitchen, but arriving before 8:30am on a Sunday solves most of it. The Farmyard setup makes it easy to linger, because the kids and the dogs both have somewhere to burn energy.

Max: Puppycino delivered to my patch of grass, tractor noises in the distance, pancakes under negotiation across the table. I love this place.
