Thai Kiosk

Thai Kiosk is a compact, mostly-takeaway Thai kitchen at Shop 2, 29 Peachey Road in the Ormeau plaza, cooking curries, stir-fries and Pad Thai with a solid vegetarian and vegan range. The list runs from green, yellow, panang and jungle curry through Pad See Ew and Hokkien noodles, with coconut rice and mango sticky rice for after. It is a fast-service operation rather than a destination restaurant, and the front pavement tables are where dogs fit in.

The dog setup

Dogs settle at the outdoor tables on the front pavement of the plaza; there is no indoor option and the counter is small, so do not expect a water bowl on the floor. Bring your own and pour it before the food arrives. A calm dog lying under the table suits this setup best, because the footpath doubles as the walkway between the car park and the other shops.

Max: order the panang, claim the end table, and keep the water bowl at your feet, not the aisle.

Worth knowing

Hours skew to evenings: the venue lists Wednesday from 4:30pm to 8:30pm, Thursday and Friday with a lunch service from 11:30am to 2:30pm plus the evening session, and Saturday and Sunday evenings only, with Monday and Tuesday closed. Lunch specials run Thursday and Friday. That makes a weekend lunch visit a trap, so aim for the evening service or a Thursday-Friday lunch.

Getting there and parking

There is a free car park directly in front of the Peachey Road shops, and the plaza is an easy run off the M1 at the Ormeau exit, which suits a dog already in the car. Collection is quick: order ahead for pickup and the footpath table becomes a five-minute stop.

Close by with the dogs

Ormeau is well fenced when it comes to runs before dinner: Vennor Reserve Fenced Dog Park and Maidenwell Park Fenced Dog Park are both in the suburb, so a tired dog is an easy dinner companion. For mornings, At The Willow Tree Cafe and Kovi Cafe cover the local coffee circuit.
