Luuna Mexican Cantina

Luuna Mexican Cantina serves coastal Mexican from Shop 1/235 Gympie Terrace, on Noosaville's riverfront strip. It is a relaxed, fairy-lit kind of spot for tacos and margaritas, and dogs are welcome at the alfresco tables along the footpath.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you in the outdoor alfresco seating on the pedestrian-friendly Gympie Terrace footpath; the inside room is off limits. The strip sees a steady stream of walkers and cyclists heading to the river, so it best suits a dog that settles around passing foot traffic. Bring your own water bowl, and angle your dog in behind the table leg rather than into the walkway.

The food

The kitchen works through Baja fish tacos, birria and al pastor in taco, burrito and nacho form, with cocktails and a solid margarita list. There is a weekday lunch deal and rotating Monday to Thursday specials, plus happy hour from 4pm to 5:30pm. It opens for lunch 12pm to 3pm Monday to Saturday, with dinner from 4pm until late; Sunday is closed, so plan your riverfront Mexican for any day but that one.

Pepsi: cyclists, prams, the odd paddleboard under an arm, and me glued to my spot because the taco droppings were worth it.

Getting there and parking

Gympie Terrace runs along the Noosa River side of Noosaville, with angled and on-street parking along the strip and the Weyba Creek bridge end busiest at sunset. It is an easy walk from the Noosaville retail strip or a short ride from Noosa Heads. Weekend dinners fill the alfresco row, so arrive early if you need a table with space for a dog.

Close by with the dogs

Make a morning of it with a river-view breakfast at Grind Cafe, let the dog swim and run at Weyba Creek Park, then settle into dinner at Sardo Noosa if the tacos do not win the night.

Best window with a dog is a weekday lunch or an early dinner before the footpath gets busy.
