The Mustard Seed - Mount Barker

The Mustard Seed serves Indian curries, tandoori and a fusion brunch menu from the Aston Hills shopping centre in Mount Barker, in the Adelaide Hills. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which makes it a practical lunch stop if you are walking the estate with a dog in tow.

The dog setup

Well behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor dining area, on lead and sitting beside your table. As with most food venues in South Australia, health regulations keep animals out of the indoor dining room, so the outside tables are the only option. Staff are generally easy going about dogs at the outdoor seats. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so carry your own bowl and top it up.

The vibe

The kitchen is known for its butter chicken, clay oven tandoori and house made naan, with a goat curry that regulars order again and again. Brunch and Mediterranean style tapas fill out the menu, and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan plates alongside licensed and BYO drinks. It sits in the middle of the growing Aston Hills estate, so the outdoor area sees a steady stream of locals and dog walkers. Lunch runs 11am to 2:30pm Wednesday to Sunday, with dinner from 5pm most days; Monday and Tuesday are dinner only.

Getting there and parking

The restaurant is at 485 Heysen Boulevard in the Aston Hills Shopping Centre, with free parking directly outside. It is an easy drive from central Mount Barker and a flat, pleasant walk if you are already inside the estate.
