Beach Road Winery & Restaurant

Beach Road Wines is a family-owned boutique winery on Seaview Road with a wide outlook over the McLaren Vale valley, and it is one of the easier cellar doors in the region to front up to with a dog. The venue's own FAQ confirms dogs are welcome across the outdoor lawn and alfresco areas and, unusually for the region, typically inside the cellar door while you taste, provided they stay on lead and well behaved.

The dog setup

Settle on the lawns or alfresco deck for lunch, or bring your dog in with you for a tasting. The house rules are straightforward: lead on, supervise, clean up after your dog. On warm days carry your own portable water bowl rather than expecting one to be floating around. If a lawn table matters on a weekend, arrive early or book, because the pizza service pulls a crowd from late morning.

Max: park your dog in the shade of the lawn edge while you taste, the valley sun gets full force through the middle of the day.

Worth knowing

The lineup leans Mediterranean and Italian, with fiano and barbera alongside McLaren Vale shiraz, and the kitchen is built around light wood-fired pizzas and platters, including gluten-free options. Doors open 11am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday, with Monday and Tuesday closed, so plan a midweek visit outside those days. Wednesday and Thursday are the quietest for a relaxed table with a dog.

Getting there and parking

The address is 309 Seaview Road, McLaren Vale, a short drive from the town centre. There is free on-site parking including accessible parking and entry. Seaview Road threads between other cellar doors, which makes it easy to string a dog-friendly crawl together without long drives.

Close by with the dogs

Several neighbours along Seaview Road and the surrounding lanes welcome dogs outdoors too; Paxton Wines is a well-known one with grassy grounds. The paved Shiraz Trail between McLaren Vale and Willunga allows dogs on lead and runs along the old rail corridor, useful for a leg stretch before or after lunch. For coffee in town, Sam I Am Cafe is nearby, and the McLaren Vale Hotel keeps dogs on its verandah if you want a pub night as well. Off-leash time is best had at the Port Willunga and Aldinga beaches under the City of Onkaparinga's time-of-day rules, so check the signage on the day.
