SubZero Gelato is an artisan gelato shop on West Swan Road in Henley Brook, an easy warm-weather stop on a Swan Valley drive. It is a genuine bring-the-dog spot, with a spacious shaded outdoor area and lawn where the dog can settle while you work through a cone.

The setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, on the patio and near the grass, but not inside the service area, which is standard for a food counter. The outdoor area is shaded, there is a small sand play area and lawn games, and in summer the cooling spray helps take the edge off the heat.

The dog side of it. There is plenty of room to sit on the lead while kids play nearby, so it suits a dog that is happy to lounge. Bring a bowl for water, and note the sealed surfaces and open lawn get hot in a Swan Valley summer, so aim for shade.

Known for. House-made gelato with a big range of flavours, plus fresh waffles and giant gelato sandwiches. There are solid dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free options, and a few adult flavours like espresso martini and rum and raisin.

Getting there. On West Swan Road, easy off the Reid Highway, with a large free car park right out front. Late morning is the calmest window before the weekend rush builds.
