Dragon Stall Malaysian Cafe does roadside-stall style Malaysian food on Logan Road in Eight Mile Plains, and regulars say there is nothing else quite like it in Brisbane. The menu reads like a Penang hawker list: Penang fried kuey teow, satay skewers with peanut sauce, roti canai, nasi lemak and laksa lemak, all cooked halal. It is a small, unpretentious room with an outdoor option out front, which is where dog owners will want to be.

Worth knowing

Hours are unusual and worth planning around: the cafe is closed Monday and Tuesday, runs dinner only from Wednesday to Friday (6pm to 11pm), and opens from 11am on Saturday and Sunday. If you want wok-fired noodles or a late satay feed, this is very much an evening venue on weeknights. Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 2674 Logan Road, Eight Mile Plains, in Brisbane's south between the Pacific Motorway and the Gateway Motorway. Street parking on this stretch of Logan Road can be tight at dinner peaks, so arriving early helps, and buses run regularly along Logan Road if you would rather leave the car. The surrounding blocks are quieter if you want a short on-lead stroll before you eat.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-lead run before dinner, Holmead Park Fenced Dog Park is a few minutes away in the same suburb. Mount Gravatt Summit Track makes a good pre-dinner walk if you are coming from the north, and Mount Gravatt Hotel is a fallback for a more conventional pub meal with the dog outside.

Max: Satay by the roadside with my humans, kway teow smell everywhere. Short lead, patience, and the peanut sauce leftovers were worth it.
