Holmead Park Fenced Dog Park

Holmead Park Fenced Dog Park on Holmead Road, Eight Mile Plains, is a fully fenced, double-gated off-leash park with separate sections for big and small dogs, wrapped in a wider parkland of playgrounds and paved walking trails on Brisbane's southside.

The dog setup

Secure wire mesh fencing encloses both the large-dog and small-dog sections, so you can pick the space that matches your dog's size and confidence. Your dog stays on lead until you are safely inside the double-gated entry, and both the outer and inner gates need to be closed and latched before the lead comes off, because the gap between them is the one place a dog can slip out. Standard Brisbane City Council rules do the rest: stay with and actively supervise your dog the whole time, and pick up and bin all waste using the dispensers on site. Water taps and bowls are provided, along with plenty of bench seating and a large shaded cabana with free gas barbecues, which turns a park visit into an easy weekend catch-up.

The vibe

Early mornings before 8am and late afternoons after 4:30pm are the busiest windows, especially on weekends when the regulars pile in. Mid-morning on a weekday is the safer bet for a nervous dog. The playground nearby keeps the parkland lively, so sound-sensitive dogs may prefer an off-peak slot.

Getting there and parking

The park sits just off the Logan and Pacific Motorways with parking at the trailhead off Holmead Road. The paved Bulimba Creek Bikeway connects directly to the park for a traffic-free walk or ride in, and Eight Mile Plains Busway Station is a short walk or quick rideshare away on the Translink network.
