Pinelli Estate Winery Restaurant

Pinelli Estate is a small, family-owned winery and Italian restaurant on Benara Road in the southern Swan Valley, run by the same family for more than 40 years. For dog owners it works as a quieter alternative to the big-name cellar doors, with a sheltered verandah set aside for you and the dog rather than a whole dog program.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor verandah seating only, and only subject to available space, so book ahead and say you are bringing a dog. The verandah is paved and sheltered, which holds up in both afternoon sun and the occasional Swan Valley shower, but there is no grass run and no dog menu, so bring a water bowl and something for your dog to lie on. Indoors, the dining room and cellar door are people-only, aside from assistance animals.

Worth knowing

The kitchen leans authentic Italian, with pizza, pasta and lunch plates, and the cellar door pours the estate's own wines. It is a calm, small-scale visit rather than a party venue, which suits a settled dog. If the verandah is full, the staff will simply say so, and it is worth having a second stop in mind. Getting there

The address is 114 Benara Road, Caversham, about 20 to 25 minutes from the Perth CBD. Free on-site parking sits right in front of the restaurant and cellar door, and the grounds are fairly level from the car park to the verandah, so there is no awkward terrain for an older dog.

Close by with the dogs

Make a small circuit of it: RiverBank Estate is close by in Caversham, and Ugly Duckling Wines in West Swan is a few minutes further up the valley. For a run before lunch, the Little Duck Creek Reserve fenced dog park in Guildford is on the way in from the city.
