Mary Crescent Reserve Off-lead Dog Area

Mary Crescent Reserve Off-lead Dog Area at 35 Gallagher Street is a large, 24/7 off-leash dog exercise area in Eden Hill, run by the Town of Bassendean. The reason to make the trip is space: vast open grass, mature shade trees and concrete benches across a reserve that never closes, five minutes from Maylands and Bayswater.

The dog setup

Dogs may exercise off-leash but must remain under effective voice control and in close proximity to the handler at all times, and you are required to carry a leash with you. The children's playground area is an on-leash zone, so clip on before you pass through, and the same goes for car parks and any organised sport in progress.

Collect dog waste immediately and use the bins provided. The reserve mixes open grass areas with more sheltered corners under established trees, so there is room for fetch in the open and a calmer sniff along the edges.

The vibe

This is a neighbourhood reserve rather than a purpose-built dog park, shared with a nature-based playground, picnic tables and a restored wetland basin that draws birdlife. Expect local regulars at dawn and after school rather than destination crowds, and a community feel that comes from the same faces.

Getting there

The reserve is bounded by Gallagher Street, Mary Crescent, Ivanhoe Street and Kirk Street in Eden Hill, with street parking on all four sides. It is a short drive from the Morley side of the hills escarpment and walkable from most of Eden Hill.

Toe Beans Bassendean and Caff on Broadway cover the coffee run into Bassendean, and Dianella Fenced Dog Park is the closest fully fenced alternative if your dog needs containment.
