Chubb's Brookvale

Chubb's Brookvale is a smokehouse and sports bar at 79 Winbourne Road, in the middle of Brookvale's commercial strip. It does American-style smoked food, big screens for the footy, a pool table and a genuinely low-key local crowd, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area. It is a short walk from Pittwater Road and an easy stop either side of a Northern Beaches dog park run.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you in the outdoor area, which is spacious enough for a dog to settle properly beside the table rather than being squeezed between chairs. Bring your own water bowl; none is guaranteed on the table. The main thing to judge is your dog's temperament, because on Sea Eagles game days and big televised fixtures the room gets loud and lively, and that is a lot for a nervous dog. Outside of those windows it is a relaxed backstreet spot.

Worth knowing

The menu runs on smoked wings, ribs, burgers and loaded fries, with a solid beer list to match. Doors open from 4pm Wednesday and Thursday, midday Friday through Sunday, and the venue is closed Monday and Tuesday. Pool tables inside keep the sports-bar energy going, so plan for a casual feed rather than a quiet dinner.

The address is 79 Winbourne Road, Brookvale, in the industrial and commercial precinct behind Pittwater Road. Parking is free on-street on Winbourne Road and in a nearby lot, and it is an easy walk from the Pittwater Road bus corridor.

Close by with the dogs

Brookvale's brewery strip makes this easy to extend. Felons Brewing Co. over at Manly is another dog-friendly taproom option, and the Dee Why dog park at Curl Curl is a short drive for an off-lead run before the wings arrive. Same-suburb cafes Wilburs. and JOY Cafe Brookvale cover the daytime coffee ends of the strip.
