Killik Handcrafted Rum

Killik Handcrafted Rum is a boutique rum distillery and bar on Monbulk Road, right at the edge of Sherbrooke Forest, and dogs are welcome on the front verandah while you work through the rum flight.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the front verandah and terrace seating, not inside the dining rooms. The verandah is a relaxed spot, with misty sprays running on hot days, so there is shade for a dog lying under the table. Staff are accommodating but do not count on house water bowls, bring your own. Dogs need to be leashed and well-behaved, this is a working bar with close-set outdoor tables.

Known for. Small-batch, high-funk Jamaican-style rum and creative cocktails such as the Dark 'n' Stormy, alongside a food menu built around ham hock toasties, salads and dinner specials.

Getting there. Killik is on Monbulk Road between Belgrave and Monbulk. On-site parking is limited, and roadside parking fills up on weekends, so arrive early if you can. It is also a short walk from Belgrave railway station if you are coming by train.

Nearby with the dogs. Killik sits right at the start of the Sherbrooke Forest walking tracks, including the route toward Sherbrooke Falls, an easy on-leash walk to pair with lunch either before or after.

When to go. Weekends get busy on the verandah, especially in fine weather, so a weekday visit or an early weekend booking gets you the better table. Good for dogs that are settled around close outdoor seating and other diners.
