Oceans 27

Oceans 27 is the Alkimos beachfront restaurant at 27 Portside Promenade, looking over the Indian Ocean and the rusting hulk of the SS Alkimos shipwreck offshore. Dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor areas, alfresco tables and the relaxed lawn with couches next to Waterfront Park, which makes it a rare sunset-dinner-with-the-dog option on this stretch of the Perth northern coast.

The dog setup

Dogs stay in the outdoor alfresco and lawn areas, on a lead, with the indoor dining room off limits. The venue is openly pro-dog; its own social media posts state that dogs are always welcome, and staff keep dog treats at the reception counter, with breakfast service historically adding extras for canine guests. It sits on a public promenade, so keep the lead on even at a couch on the lawn. Carry a water bowl in summer rather than relying on one being on the table.

Worth knowing

Seafood leads the menu: the shared seafood platter, calamari, fish and chips and a steak sandwich are the regular picks, and live music runs on some evenings. Hours run breakfast through dinner, roughly 8am to 3pm Mondays and Tuesdays and to 9pm Wednesday through Saturday (7pm Sundays), so it doubles as a post-walk coffee stop as much as a dinner venue. The room is casual beachside rather than fine dining, and families and dog owners share the deck at sunset.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Portside Promenade and the surrounding Shorehaven streets, and the path from the beachside promenade to the outdoor seating is flat and step-free. In summer, expect the closest bays to fill around sunset, so arrive early or plan a short walk. Bookings are taken through the venue's website.

Close by with the dogs

Two proper off-leash beaches sit either side of Alkimos: Quinns Dog Beach on Ocean Drive at Quinns Rocks, a short drive south, with wide protected sand, calm reef-sheltered water, waste bags and water stations; and Yanchep Dog Beach at 69 Brazier Road to the north, where flat expansive sand and shallow wading pools suit a long run. Waterfront Park next to the venue gives an on-lead stretch before you sit down.
