Port Admiral Hotel

The Port Admiral Hotel is a restored 1849 gastropub on Commercial Road, one of the oldest surviving buildings in Port Adelaide, and a genuinely dog-friendly stop for a meal in the historic Port precinct.

Dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the large, shaded outdoor beer garden, and the footpath tables out front are another easy option if you just want a quick drink. There is no overnight accommodation here, it is a day-visit pub only. Staff will usually bring a water bowl for your dog. Keep dogs leashed and supervised at all times.

Known for. A strong rotation of craft beer on tap, a curated wine list, and elevated pub classics built around South Australian produce. The heritage building itself is part of the appeal, with the restored 1849 facade and interior.

Getting there. 55 Commercial Road, Port Adelaide, about 20 minutes northwest of the Adelaide CBD by car. Street parking runs along Commercial Road and side streets, and there are public car parks nearby including one near the SA Maritime Museum. It is also a short walk from Port Adelaide railway station.

Nearby with the dogs. Hart's Mill precinct is a five minute walk away with open grass and paved paths for a stroll before or after the pub. The Port River waterfront walk is close by too, and it is worth watching for the resident dolphins that are occasionally spotted from the bank.

Best on a weekday afternoon or early on the weekend before the beer garden fills. Good for a relaxed pub lunch with a well-mannered dog on lead.
