Hotel Mosman is a busy traditional pub at 634 Military Road, in the heart of the Mosman strip on the Lower North Shore. Dogs are welcome on the upper outdoor terrace, which has its own balcony and garden outlook, so you can settle in for a proper pub meal rather than a quick coffee.

The dog setup. Dogs join you in the upstairs outdoor terrace and balcony area, not the indoor bar and dining rooms. That upstairs terrace runs an adults-only policy, which keeps it quieter and well suited to a dog resting beside the table. Staff are accommodating and water is usually offered, but carry your own bowl. Keep your dog on lead beside you.

Good to know. Classic pub fare is the draw, porterhouse, schnitzel, lamb shank and barramundi, with the kitchen serving late into the evening and a garden view over the historic Boronia House grounds.

Getting there. Street parking on Military Road and the side streets is limited and timed, so check signage carefully. The B1 and other Military Road buses stop close by, which is the easier option on a busy night.

Nearby with the dogs. Boronia Park is a short walk for a pre or post-meal stretch, and the Military Road shops have several dog-friendly cafes for a daytime stop.

It is a full-on pub upstairs, music, foot traffic and the smell of the grill. Bring a dog that settles in a crowd, take the corner of the terrace, and skip it on a packed Friday night if yours is the nervous type.

Best for a relaxed weeknight dinner or an afternoon on the terrace, when the upstairs space is calmer. Good for confident, social dogs that handle a lively room.
