Beach House Bar & Grill North Lakes

Beach House Bar & Grill sits in the outdoor dining precinct at Westfield North Lakes, doing the classic Australian pub menu of steaks, seafood, burgers and pizza from 8am most days. For dog owners the relevant fact is the covered outdoor terrace that faces the town square: it welcomes dogs, and it is one of the few genuinely dog-friendly dinner tables in the Moreton Bay corridor.

The dog setup

Dogs stay on lead and close to the table on the shaded terrace, out of the main walking lines for staff and other diners. Staff have a habit of bringing out ice water on hot days, which tells you how normal the canine trade is. The indoor dining room is off limits, so if the terrace is full on a Friday night you may be waiting outdoors with the dog; book or arrive early on weekends.

The menu is the reason people keep coming: chicken parma, calamari, lamb shank, steak and prawns, with sweet potato fries on the side. Hours run to 8:30pm Monday to Wednesday and Sunday, and 9pm Thursday to Saturday, with weekend service from 7am, so breakfast with the dog works too.

The vibe

Busy and family-oriented rather than refined. The terrace overlooks the town square and cinema precinct, so there is constant foot traffic, which suits easygoing dogs and is worth thinking about if yours startles at prams and skateboarders. It fills around dinner and weekend brunch.

Pepsi: the terrace edge near the square is the noisy side. Take the inner tables if your dog is new to crowds, and expect a queue of kids wanting to say hello either way.

Getting there and parking

The address is Shop R3, Westfield North Lakes on North Lakes Drive, Mango Hill. The Red Car Park is the closest access, dropping you near the outdoor dining section without dragging the dog through the mall. Mango Hill train station is a short walk for anyone coming down the line.

Make a day of it

Burn energy first: the Sunstone Circuit Park Fenced Dog Park has agility gear and drinking stations in Mango Hill, and the bigger Aurora Boulevard Park Fenced Dog Park in North Lakes runs separate large and small dog enclosures. The lake-side Capestone Dog Park pairs an off-leash session with an on-leash water walk.
