The Friendly Inn Hotel

The Friendly Inn is the pub in Kangaroo Valley, a historic country hotel at 159 Moss Vale Road with a big beer garden looking out to the escarpment. It is genuinely set up for dogs, which is what makes it the default meeting spot for locals walking theirs.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome out the front, on the deck and through the large grassy beer garden, and a covered marquee area at the back with heaters keeps a wet or cold day in play. Keep your dog on a lead and settled. Water bowls are usually out in the outdoor areas, but pack your own in case.

Max: the garden is open and near the road, so keep the lead short when you first arrive and give a nervous dog a corner table away from the through-traffic.

The vibe

It is a classic country pub menu, with schnitzels, steak sandwiches, pork ribs and lamb shanks the regular orders, plus live music at times. It opens daily from 11am to 10pm, and weekends and holiday long weekends fill both the garden and the car park fast.

Getting there

The pub sits on Moss Vale Road in the centre of the village, with a free car park on site and more free street parking along the main road. Both fill quickly on busy afternoons, so arrive ahead of the lunch rush if you want a garden table with room for a dog.

While you're out there

The village street is walkable for a post-lunch loop, and Valley Bliss Eatery covers dog-friendly coffee nearby. For an overnight, Kangaroo Valley Glenmack Park and Wombatalla Guest House are pet-friendly options in the valley, and Bomo Dog Bowl Fenced Dog Park is a run on the drive out toward Nowra.
