Public House(Albury)

Public House is a modern pub and cocktail bar at 491 Dean Street in central Albury, all bright open spaces and neighbourhood warmth, and dogs join you at the street-side outdoor tables. The kitchen takes classic pub fare somewhere more considered with locally grown, seasonal produce, and the bar is serious enough to have taken out the AHA NSW award for best cocktail list. It opens midday Wednesday through Sunday and closes Monday and Tuesday.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor, street-side seating, which is also the non-smoking zone; indoors is people only. Staff are generally accommodating, and a water bowl is worth carrying yourself as a back-up through the busy happy-hour and weekend stretches. The street tables sit on Dean Street with footpath traffic and other dogs passing, so it suits a relaxed dog.

The food and the bar

Gourmet pizzas and share-style grazing boards anchor the menu alongside the house chicken parmigiana, and the cocktail list runs to the famous Cocktail Tree, twelve drinks that need a day's pre-order. Weekly rhythms worth timing: happy hour daily from 4pm to 6pm with six-dollar schooners and wines, mini martinis on Wednesday evenings, and two-for-one pizza from Thursday noon. Live DJs run Friday and Saturday from 9pm, which makes the outdoor area louder and busier than a midweek lunch.

Getting there and a walk after

Street parking runs along Dean and the nearby blocks, and the pub is walkable from most of the inner city. For the leg-stretch, the Murray foreshore at Noreuil Park is close but on-leash only under AlburyCity rules; the proper off-leash options are the Oddies Creek leash-free area on the river flat and the fully fenced Logan Road dog park next to Bunton Park.
