Blackwood Drive Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Blackwood Drive Reserve is a quiet, L-shaped stretch of open grass on a former orchard site at 4 Blackwood Drive, Wonga Park, designated off-leash by Manningham Council. There is not much here beyond space, and that is the appeal: a low-key reserve where dogs can range and sniff without the crowds of a purpose-built dog park.

The dog setup

The reserve is completely unfenced. It borders quiet local streets on a couple of sides and the back fences of private properties on the others, so it is best suited to dogs with reliable recall. Dogs go on lead entering and leaving the reserve, then off-lead under effective voice control inside. Standard Manningham buffers apply: back on lead within 15 metres of any play equipment, picnic setting or barbecue. There are no bag dispensers on site, so bring your own bags.

The vibe

Facilities are deliberately basic: a bench or two, patchy natural shade and open grass. There is no water tap, so pack your own and a bowl. The grass turns muddy after rain, which dogs appreciate and owners tolerate. It is rarely busy; weekend mornings are the closest thing to a rush, and the rest of the week you will often have the place to yourself.

Street parking on Blackwood Drive is easy in this quiet residential pocket of Wonga Park, with no dedicated car park needed. The reserve is flat and easy underfoot, which suits older dogs and anyone doing laps.
