Weyba Downs Dog Exercise Area is an off-leash zone on the shores of Lake Weyba, about 10 to 15 minutes' drive from Noosa Junction or Noosaville. The drawcard is direct lake frontage: dogs can work the water, the sand flats and the mangrove-edge tracks in a natural, unfenced bushland setting.
The rules. Dogs can run off-leash but must stay under effective voice control. Follow the posted signs at the Lake Weyba Drive entry points to confirm you are inside the designated zone. The surrounding Lake Weyba Bushland Reserve Network is environmentally sensitive, and dogs are not permitted in those areas. Sunshine Coast Council's dog rules were updated in July 2026, so stick to what is signed rather than assuming boundaries from previous visits.
The terrain. Expect a mix of sandy foreshore, mud flats and mangrove walking tracks along the lake's edge. Low tide opens up the flats and lets you walk further out; high tide pushes water up to the grassy and mangrove edge. The area is unfenced and natural, with no seating, shade structures or drinking fountains confirmed on site.
Watch-outs. The foreshore gets muddy, particularly around the water line and after high tide. Bring towels for the dog and protect your car interior. Because the zone borders restricted bushland reserve, keep your dog within the signed off-leash area and do not let dogs wander into the surrounding vegetation.
Getting there. Drive in via Lake Weyba Drive and look for the unsealed parking area opposite numbers 37 to 75. Public transport to this stretch is minimal, so a private vehicle or ride-share is the practical option.
Nearby with the dogs. If you want to pair the lake with a saltwater swim, Doggy Beach at Noosa Heads is the closest off-leash beach option. For a fenced alternative, Elysium off leash dog park in Noosa Heads is worth a look. Coffee and a feed afterwards: MOTO and The Scoop @4567 both sit in Noosa Heads. If you are staying longer, Noosa Valley Manor Boutique B&B in Doonan is a short drive inland.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon on a weekday is the quietest window. Weekends draw more locals, so expect company at the entry points and along the main foreshore track. Good for water-loving dogs and owners who want a natural, unfenced swim spot without the surf crowds.
