Weyba Downs Dog Exercise Area

Weyba Downs Dog Exercise Area is an off-leash zone on the shores of Lake Weyba, 10 to 15 minutes from Noosa Junction or Noosaville. The drawcard is direct lake frontage: dogs can work the water, the sand flats and the mangrove-edge tracks in a natural, unfenced bushland setting.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash but must stay under effective voice control. There is no fencing, seating, shade structure or confirmed drinking water, so this is a bring-your-own setup. Follow the posted signs at the Lake Weyba Drive entry points to confirm you are inside the designated zone.

The surrounding Lake Weyba Bushland Reserve Network is environmentally sensitive and dogs are not permitted there, and the lakeside foreshore trails away from the exercise area require leads. Sunshine Coast Council's dog rules were updated in July 2026, so trust the signage rather than memory from previous visits.

Max: this is a voice-control park in a bird sanctuary, not a fence-and-forget one. If the recall is patchy, keep the long lead on, especially with waders on the flats.

Worth knowing

The terrain mixes sandy foreshore, mud flats and mangrove-edge walking tracks. Low tide opens the flats and lets you walk further out; high tide pushes water back to the grassy edge. The foreshore gets muddy around the waterline, particularly after high tide, so pack towels for the dog and a cover for the car. Lake Weyba is a recognised wetland with black swans, pelicans and migratory waders, which is exactly why the leash rules are strict outside the zone.

Getting there and parking

Drive in via Lake Weyba Drive and look for the unsealed parking area opposite numbers 37 to 75. Public transport along this stretch is minimal, so a car is the practical option.
