What visitors mention
Doggy Beach is the off-leash dog beach on the Noosa Spit, on the river side of Claude Batten Drive at Noosa Heads. The draw is the water: a calm, shallow, sandy inlet with no surf, which makes it a sound choice for nervous swimmers, small dogs, and any dog that dislikes a dumping wave.
The rules. Dogs are off-leash in the designated zone along the riverfront section of the Spit, running from the eastern end towards the river entrance. They must stay under effective voice control at all times, and Noosa Council does enforce this with fines, so a reliable recall matters here. Dogs must be registered and wearing tags, and there is a general limit of two dogs per person. Keep off the marked bathing reserve at Main Beach and off the sand dunes, where dogs are not permitted.
What's there. A large sand-and-dirt car park sits right beside the beach off Claude Batten Drive, with public toilets on the Spit, bins near the car park, and a scattering of trees for shade. Basic water is sometimes available, but bring your own bowl and fresh water to be safe.
Getting there. From Hastings Street, follow Noosa Drive towards Noosaville and turn onto Claude Batten Drive; the beach runs along the left. It is also a 15 to 20 minute walk from Hastings Street along the foreshore path. The car park fills fast on weekend mornings, so arrive early.
Nearby with the dogs. The cafes and bars of Noosa Junction and Hastings Street are a short drive away, most with footpath seating that welcomes dogs.
Pepsi: Low to mid tide opens up the most sandbar for running and shallow paddling; come back near high tide if your dog would rather swim than sprint.
Best early morning before 9am or late afternoon, especially on weekends. Good for shy swimmers and confident water dogs alike.
