Wesburn Park Dog Off Leash Area

Wesburn Park Dog Off Leash Area sits in the south-west corner of the broader Wesburn Park reserve on the Warburton Highway, in the Yarra Valley. Its drawcard is a dedicated rectangular gravel strip with an eight-element agility course, paired with a grassy open run under young shade trees, and it suits dogs that like structured equipment as much as a free run.

The dog setup

Only the designated south-west corner is off-leash. The rest of Wesburn Park, including the sports ovals, playground and equestrian facilities, is on-lead, and dogs are not permitted in the equestrian event areas or on the ovals at all. There is a waste bin near the parking area, and owners are expected to clean up.

The off-leash zone itself is only partially fenced, and the Warburton Highway runs close to the park boundary. Dogs with solid recall manage fine here; a bolter or a new rescue is safer on a long line while you work out how they handle the open edges.

Max: treat the highway boundary as a hard line. Before you drop the lead, scope the fence gaps and position yourself between your dog and the road.

The vibe

This is a no-frills suburban spot with mountain views rather than a destination dog park. The agility rectangle has eight obstacles for training, and the grassy run gives room for ball games. A water tap with a dog bowl and a couple of seats cover the basics, and public toilets are a short walk away by the main playground.

Getting there

The park fronts the Warburton Highway in Wesburn, with straightforward access from Yarra Junction or Warburton and parking near the entrance. Bus routes run along the highway, but a car is the realistic way to get here.

Make a day of it

The Warburton River Walk is a short drive up the valley for an on-lead riverside leg-stretch, and Yarra Valley Wine Co. Store & Bar pours with dogs welcome outside. If you are staying in the valley, Doon Reserve Caravan Park at Yarra Junction is close by.
