James Fitzgerald Park Off Leash Large & Small Dog Area

James Fitzgerald Park on Tygum Road, Waterford West runs a fully fenced off-leash area split into two separate enclosures: a front pen for large dogs and a rear area for small dogs. The divided layout is the main draw, keeping big and small dogs in their own zones for safer play, and the park is open around the clock.

The dog setup

Both zones are fully fenced with double-gated entry, and the small-dog area carries a few agility items for active play. The reserve is a spacious, open grassy ground, though some corners lack real shade on hot days, so time your visit around the sun. Dog drinking water, seating and shelter for owners, and waste bag dispensers are all on site.

Logan City Council rules apply. Dogs must be under effective voice control at all times inside the enclosures, and owners are expected to pick up after their dogs using the supplied bags. Leash your dog in the car park and right up until you are inside the designated off-leash area, and clip the lead back on before you leave the fence rather than waiting until you reach the car.

Max: The leash-to-the-gate rule is non-negotiable here. Clip on before you leave the fenced zone, not once you reach the car.

Getting there

The park is at 15 to 29 Tygum Road, Waterford West, with free on-site parking on Tygum Road itself. It sits in Logan's north-east, an easy drive from Loganlea, Meadowbrook and Slacks Creek, and Waterford Plaza is a couple of minutes up the road if you need to fold a dog park stop into the shopping run.
