Upper Kedron Dog off-leash area is a large open-space park on Cemetery Road in the foothills of Brisbane's north-west, blending cleared grass with natural bushland. It is a quiet suburban spot best suited to dogs that enjoy running in open spaces and exploring natural terrain.

The dog setup

Brisbane City Council off-leash rules apply: keep your dog under effective voice control and within sight at all times, on lead while entering and leaving the designated area, and strictly on lead in the surrounding car parks and non-designated parkland. Waste bins are provided, and owners must pick up.

The space is only partially fenced and stays open toward the bushland and creek line, so solid recall is essential. Bring your own water, as there is no confirmed on-site supply, and basic seating covers the owners while the dogs work the grass.

Max: partial fencing near the bushland and creek means this is not the place to test a dodgy recall. If your dog fixates on wildlife or tends to bolt, choose one of the fully fenced parks nearby instead.

The vibe

It is a low-key local reserve rather than a busy destination, drawing regulars from Upper Kedron and the neighbouring foothills suburbs. The Upper Kedron Recreation Reserve next door adds playgrounds, picnic tables and barbecues for the rest of the family.

Watch-outs

The bushland setting means ticks are a genuine hazard in the warmer months, so check your dog's coat thoroughly after every visit. The ground also turns muddy after heavy rain, and the foothill terrain drains slowly in the low sections.

Getting there

The area sits along Cemetery Road in Upper Kedron, with wheelchair-accessible parking along the road itself. It is easiest by car, and the parkland backs onto the Brisbane Forest Park edge.

Close by with the dogs

For fully enclosed play, Paten Park Fenced Dog Park and Keryn Place Park Fenced Dog Park are both a short drive, and Ferny Grove Dog Park is another nearby option. The Ironbark Gully Loop at Ferny Hills makes an on-lead bushwalk pairing.
