Wittonga Park Fenced Dog Park

Wittonga Park is The Gap's big multi-use sports precinct, and tucked inside it is a fully fenced off-leash dog area with separate enclosures for small and large dogs. Given the park's other drawcards, a BMX track, scooter track, playground and playing fields, it is an easy choice when the whole household is coming along and the dog still needs a proper run.

The dog setup

The off-leash area sits behind secure fencing with double-gate entries, split into size-separated sections so small and large dogs are not sharing the same ground unsupervised. There is open grass for running, shade from mature trees, a water bubbler and benches for owners. The surface drains to mud patches after heavy rain, so expect a dirtier dog in wet weather.

The rules

This is a Brisbane City Council designated off-leash area, open around the clock. Keep your dog leashed until you are inside the gates and clip it back on before leaving, close both gates behind you, and stay inside the enclosure with your dog while it is off lead. Dogs showing aggression need to be leashed and taken out, and waste should go straight into the bins provided.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 98 Hilder Road, The Gap, with the playground on the Alutha Road corner and street parking on both streets plus a small car park off Hilder Road near the scooter track. Concrete paths link the dog park to the rest of the precinct, and buses along Waterworks Road leave you a short walk away.

Pepsi: the bridge over the creek between the dog park and the playing fields is worth a sniff even if your human is in a hurry.

While you're out there

If your dog prefers water to fences, Corramulling Park hugs a bend of Enoggera Creek with creek access, though it is largely unfenced and better for dogs with reliable recall. For a second secure option in the suburb, Paten Park's fenced dog park is the other side of Walton Bridge Reserve.
