Trade Park Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a long, narrow strip of green running about 300 metres along Melrose Drive in Tullamarine, wedged into the industrial precinct near Melbourne Airport. The rules. The reserve is unfenced, with the eastern boundary running alongside Melrose Drive, so keep a genuine eye on traffic. Dogs need to be under effective voice control at all times, and owners must carry a leash even when dogs are running free. Hume City Council sets a limit of two dogs per person, and you are expected to pick up and bin all waste.

What's there. A community dog toy library sits on site with ball-throw sticks and similar gear anyone can use. There is a table and seating for owners, a water tap (bring your own bowl since supply can be inconsistent), and a separate playground with slides, swings, monkey bars and a see-saw if you have kids in tow.

Getting there. The reserve is on the west side of Melrose Drive, an easy detour off the Tullamarine Freeway or Airport Drive. Parking is on-street along Melrose Drive, and local bus routes run past. The park itself is wheelchair accessible.

When to go. Weekday and weekend evenings are the busiest stretches; Thursday and Saturday evenings tend to be quieter. Mornings generally give you the most breathing room if your dog is reactive around others. Good for a quick leg-stretch before or after a flight, less so as a destination in its own right.
