Leo Dineen Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is a quiet, open grassed park on Spring Street in Tullamarine, a few minutes from Melbourne Airport. It is a straightforward neighbourhood off-leash spot rather than a destination park, with plenty of room to run and none of the crowds you get at busier suburban dog parks.
The rules. The reserve is unfenced, so dogs need reliable recall and owners need to keep visual contact and voice or hand control at all times. Hume City Council requires dogs to be leashed in the car park, within 10 metres of shared paths and BBQ areas, and within 50 metres of any playspace. Dogs must not worry or threaten other park users or wildlife, and owners are required to pick up and bin waste.
What's there. The reserve is mostly open grass, good for fetch or a frisbee session. Waste bins are placed around the park and there are basic benches for owners. Tap water on site can be unreliable, so it is worth bringing your own bottle and travel bowl. There is minimal shade or shelter, so plan around the weather.
Getting there. The reserve is at 52 Spring Street, Tullamarine, a short drive from the Tullamarine Freeway or the Western Ring Road. Off-street parking is generally available close to the reserve. The area is best reached by car; local bus routes run via Melrose Drive but do not go directly past the park.
When to go. Early mornings before 9am and late afternoons after 4:30pm tend to be busiest with locals fitting in a walk around work. Mid-morning and early afternoon on weekdays are the quietest, which suits anxious dogs or anyone working on socialisation. Good for a calm, low-key run rather than a big social scene.
