Sheahans Reserve sits on Morang Avenue in Templestowe Lower, a large unfenced green space where manicured lawn gives way to natural bushland along a creek line. It suits a dog that likes to sniff and scramble rather than a fast, fenced sprint.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted in the open areas, provided your dog is under effective control and returns on command. Keep dogs on-lead within 15 metres of the playground, permanent barbecue facilities, or any organised sport, and within 5 metres of the shared paths to avoid collisions with cyclists and walkers. Carry waste bags and clean up, fines apply for not doing so.

What's there. Dog bag dispensers are usually stocked on-site. The reserve's trees and creek line offer shade, and parking is available along Morang Avenue, though it fills up when the adjoining basketball club has games on.

Getting there. Access is via Sheahans Road into Morang Avenue. Bus route 280 (Manningham Loop) stops right outside the reserve.

When to go. Saturday mornings and sports days bring the crowds. Tuesday afternoons and Friday evenings tend to be quiet, good picks if your dog needs a bit of space from the pack.
