Hannaford Reserve

Hannaford Reserve is a suburban off-leash reserve at the corner of Winchester Street and Seventh Avenue in St Peters, in Adelaide's inner east. Its single defining drawcard is simple: dogs can run off lead here at any hour, day or night, within the designated reserve boundaries.

The dog setup

Off-leash access runs 24/7 under City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters rules, with dogs kept under effective voice control and owners cleaning up on the spot. Doggy bags are usually available on site, but bringing your own is the safe backup.

A fenced children's playground sits inside the reserve, and it is for kids, not dogs, so keep your dog entirely out of that area and use the broader grass for off-lead work.

Worth knowing

The reserve is mostly flat grass, which suits fetch and sprint work, with shade trees, benches and picnic tables for the humans. Water access for dogs is generally available, and the space is big enough for dogs to keep their distance even when the park is busy, which locals credit for the steady mix of sociable dogs and responsible owners.

Street parking runs along Winchester Street and Seventh Avenue, and there are no public toilets on site, with Linde Reserve in Stepney the nearest full-facility park. Bus routes along Payneham Road and Magill Road are a short walk away.

When to go

Late weekday afternoons between 5pm and 7pm, and weekend mornings from 9am to 11am, are the busiest windows. Weekday mornings before 8am and mid-afternoon are noticeably quieter, which suits dogs who prefer room to themselves.
