Musgrave Park Dog Off Leash Area on Musgrave Avenue gives Southport dogs a fenced, shaded patch of green to run off-leash, with basic agility gear and a lake edge that stays strictly on-leash. It is a local, community park rather than a destination, but the shade and the fencing make it a reliable daily option.
The rules. Dogs may run free in the designated off-leash area under effective voice control, and you must carry a leash at all times. The children's playground and the immediate area around Musgrave Park Lake are on-leash only. Clean up after your dog and use the bins provided, and leash and remove any dog showing aggression.
What's there. The off-leash area has basic agility equipment, drinking fountains with taps low enough for dogs, and good tree cover for shade. Owners get public toilets, picnic shelters, barbecues and picnic tables, so it suits a longer stop rather than a quick let-out.
Getting there. The park sits on Musgrave Avenue, easily reached from the Gold Coast Highway. On-site parking is available, and bus stops run along Musgrave Avenue if you are coming without a car. The ground is flat and walkable for anyone in the surrounding streets.
Nearby with the dogs. Ground N Sound on Musgrave Avenue is a short walk and known for covered, dog-friendly outdoor seating. 5B2F Bakehouse in nearby Chirn Park is another easy coffee stop after a run.

Quietest mid-morning and mid-afternoon on weekdays. It gets busiest 7-9am and 4-6pm on weekdays and on Saturday mornings, when the agility area draws a crowd, so timid dogs are better off avoiding the Saturday rush. The ground can turn muddy after heavy rain.
