5B2F Bakehouse

5B2F Bakehouse is a busy hole-in-the-wall bakery in the Chirn Park pocket of Southport, turning out serious pastry from a tiny kitchen: almond croissants, cronuts, fruit tarts, woodfired sourdough and some of the best sausage rolls on the Gold Coast. It opens at 5:30am, Monday to Saturday, and closes Sundays.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the shared alfresco seating out front, which is small, so this suits a quick coffee-and-croissant stop rather than a long sit. The bakery itself is too compact and kitchen-focused for indoor dogs, and the limited alfresco works best for smaller dogs or a short visit with a larger one. Water bowls turn up sometimes, but bring your own to be safe.

Worth knowing

The reputation rests on pastry work from a decorated pastry chef, but the savoury side holds up too: slow-cooked beef pies, gourmet sausage rolls and well-rated coffee make it a legit breakfast stop, not just a cake counter. Arrive early, before the bakery rush, for the best chance at one of the few outdoor tables and the full cabinet range.

Getting there and parking

The bakehouse sits in the Chirn Park neighbourhood, a few minutes from the Southport CBD. Street parking is available on the surrounding avenues, though it gets busy around opening hours, so be ready to park a short walk away. The Broadwater Parklands are a short drive east for a longer walk afterwards.

Burn the croissant at the Musgrave Park dog off-leash area in Southport or the Musgrave off-leash agility park over the border in Labrador. For a bigger outing, the dog beach at The Spit is nearby, and Caffe Republic is another Southport cafe worth knowing.
