Kookaburra Park Dog Off Leash Area

Kookaburra Park is a signed, fenced off-leash area on Freney Street in Rocklea, tucked among the semi-industrial blocks near the Brisbane River. It is a solid local option for open-space running and disc golf rather than a scenic destination, and it sits an easy walk from Rocklea train station.

The rules. Off-leash access applies only inside the designated, signed fenced area - keep your dog leashed on the way in and out. Owners need to keep voice control at all times, and waste bins are provided so there is no excuse to leave it behind. If you have a small or determined escape artist, check the fence line yourself before letting go of the leash; some visitors note it is worth a look rather than assuming it is fully secure.

What's there. The park is mostly open field with some shaded seating, water taps and bowls for dogs, and a disc golf course that doubles as a good frisbee-throwing space. Lighting after dark is limited, so this is more of a daytime park.

Getting there. Access is off Freney Street, reachable from Ipswich Road or Beaudesert Road. Street parking is generally free and easy to find, and Rocklea train station on the Beenleigh line is within walking distance if you would rather skip the car.

Nearby with the dogs. Sundays Cafe on Brooke Street is dog-friendly and an easy stop after a run, and Todd & Pup in Moorooka is about five minutes away if you want a coffee with a side of pupperccino.

Weekday evenings, Sunday nights and Mondays are the quiet windows. Saturday and Sunday mornings, plus Friday evenings, draw the biggest crowds, and nearby industrial traffic noise can be a bit much for sound-sensitive dogs.
