Kookaburra Park Dog Off Leash Area

Kookaburra Park is a signed, fenced off-leash area on Freney Street in Rocklea, tucked among the semi-industrial blocks near the Brisbane River flats. It is a solid local option for open-space running rather than a scenic destination, and it sits within walking distance of Rocklea train station.

The dog setup

Off-leash access applies only inside the designated fenced area, so keep your dog leashed on the way in and out. Brisbane City Council rules apply inside: stay with your dog, keep them responsive to voice commands, carry a leash, and use the waste bins provided.

If you have a small dog or a determined escape artist, walk the fence line yourself before letting go of the leash. Some visitors rate it worth checking rather than assuming the boundary is fully secure.

Worth knowing

The park is mostly open field with some shaded seating, water taps and bowls for dogs, and a disc golf course that doubles as a good throwing space. Lighting after dark is limited, so this is more of a daytime park.

The industrial-adjacent setting means traffic and workshop noise in the background, which can be a bit much for sound-sensitive dogs.

Getting there

Access is off Freney Street, reachable from Ipswich Road or Beaudesert Road, with free and easy street parking nearby. Rocklea station on the Beenleigh line is within walking distance if you would rather skip the car.

Watch-outs

Sundays Cafe on Brooke Street is dog-friendly and an easy stop after a run, and Botanicafe in Moorooka is about five minutes away.
