Sundays Cafe

Sundays Cafe is a busy corner cafe at 59 Brooke Street in Rocklea, just off Ipswich Road and handy to the train line, with a weekend breakfast crowd that shows up for generous portions and creative brunch plates. It is well known locally as dog-friendly, and water bowls usually sit out near the entrance.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor sidewalk tables, which are spaced so a dog settles beside you without blocking the footpath. Staff are reported to be relaxed about well-behaved dogs indoors too, but that varies, so ask at the door if indoor seating matters to you. There is no fee for bringing your dog, and bowls come out in the outdoor area.

Max: weekends fill early, so arrive before 8am if you want a sidewalk table with room for a bigger dog.

The vibe

The menu is the reason for the queue: the signature hash and the corn fritter waffles with sriracha hollandaise draw regular attention, alongside a Nutella French toast sandwich, halloumi burgers and avocado toast, with Veneziano coffee in the cup. Hours run 5:45am to 1pm Tuesday to Friday and 6:45am to about 12:45pm on weekends; it is closed Mondays and the kitchen wraps up before close, so late brunch is a gamble.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is a short walk from Rocklea station, which makes it an easy stop by rail. Street parking is available on Brooke Street and around Ipswich Road, but it fills early on weekends, another reason to arrive ahead of the crowd.

Close by with the dogs

Kookaburra Park Dog Off Leash Area is the closest fenced run, a fully fenced neighbourhood park on Freney Street a few minutes away. Evans Road Park Fenced Dog Park in Moorooka is another nearby option. For a follow-up stop, Botanicafe in Moorooka is dog-friendly and a short drive up the road.
