Railway Dog Park

Railway Dog Park is a brand-new, fully fenced dog exercise area built into the rebuilt Queens Park station precinct on the Armadale line, in Perth's City of Canning. It came out of the METRONET level crossing removal works, and it arrives with the two things most older suburban dog parks lack: two separate fenced zones and lighting for evening visits.

The dog setup

Both zones are fenced with airlock-style double gates, and the split means big, boisterous dogs and smaller or nervous ones can run without sharing the same space. Check the outer gate is fully latched before opening the inner one, then unclip. Outside the fence, including the surrounding Long Park space and the streetscape, dogs stay on lead. Bags, bins and a dog drinking fountain are on site, and pick up is required like any City of Canning reserve.

Max: the airlock gates are only as good as the last person through them. Latch the outer gate yourself every time rather than assuming the person before you did.

Worth knowing

Inside the fence there are rocks and logs for informal agility, seating and picnic tables, and lighting plus CCTV around the precinct, which makes solo visits after dark a realistic option. The park is new, so expect young trees rather than established shade, and plan around a hot Perth afternoon accordingly. Because the space is compact and busy at peak times, it suits socialised dogs best.

Getting there and parking

The dog park sits beside Queens Park Station on Railway Parade at Hamilton Street, so you can genuinely arrive by train and walk straight in. There is parking in the surrounding public space development, and new footpaths and cycle paths link it through the neighbourhood. Cannington and Carousel are a few minutes away by car.

Queens Park Kitchen is the nearest dog-friendly cafe stop. If you want a longer session, Koolbardi Park Fenced Dog Park at Carlisle is up the line, and Zoomie Land at Cannington is a fenced option built with greyhounds in mind.
