Railway Dog Park

Railway Dog Park is a purpose-built, fully fenced dog exercise area on Hamilton Street, right next to the rebuilt Queens Park train station on the Armadale line. It opened as part of the METRONET Victoria Park-Canning level crossing removal project, so it is one of the newest off-leash spaces in this part of Perth, with two separate zones so bigger, boisterous dogs and smaller or nervous ones are not sharing the same run.

The rules. Both zones are fenced with airlock-style double gates, so check the first gate is shut before opening the second one and letting your dog off lead. Outside the fenced dog park, including the surrounding Long Park space, dogs need to stay on a leash. Waste bags and bins are provided on-site, and cleaning up after your dog is required.

What's there. Inside the fence you will find a drinking fountain for dogs, seating and picnic tables for owners, some informal agility elements, and lighting for evening visits. The park is also fenced and lit with CCTV, which is a point in its favour for anyone visiting alone after dark.

Getting there. The park sits right beside Queens Park Station, so it is an easy add-on to a train trip. There is parking within the surrounding public space development, plus new footpaths and cycle paths connecting it to the neighbourhood.

Nearby with the dogs. The Canning River parklands are a short drive away and popular for on-lead riverside walks. Dog-friendly cafes and pubs are thin on the ground immediately around Queens Park itself, with better options clustered toward the river or the Cannington/Carousel area, so it is worth combining a visit with a short drive rather than expecting much within walking distance.

This park only opened recently as part of the new station precinct, so online ratings so far are sparse and may reflect the construction period rather than the finished space. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are likely to be quietest, with weekends and fine-weather evenings busier. Good for a quick off-leash break before or after a train trip, less so if you are after a big, established park with mature shade.
