Koolbardi Park Fenced Dog Park

Koolbardi Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area on Bishopsgate Street in Carlisle, split into separate large-dog and small-dog sections so play stays safe. It sits inside a bigger community reserve with a playground and barbecues, which makes it an easy stop whether the dog is the main event or the family is tagging along.

The rules. Both sections are fenced, so dogs can be off-leash once inside, but owners need to stay in the enclosure with their dog and keep them under effective voice control. Outside the fenced areas, in the wider reserve near the playground, dogs go back on the leash. Clean up after your dog; bring your own bags as a backup in case the on-site dispensers are empty.

What's there. Grass and sand underfoot, an obstacle course and tunnels for dogs that want a job to do, a sandpit for diggers, shaded seating and picnic tables, water points, and public toilets. Parking is right by the entrance on Bishopsgate Street.

Getting there. It's a straightforward drive off Orrong Road or Leach Highway. By train, Carlisle and Oats Street stations on the Armadale line are both about a 10-15 minute walk away, and local buses run along Orrong Road if you'd rather not drive.

Nearby with the dogs. Laika Coffee in neighbouring Lathlain roasts its own beans and is well used to dogs under the tables, a good option for coffee after a play session.

When to go. Weekend mornings and late Sunday afternoon get busy with local families and dogs. Weekday mid-mornings are quieter if your dog would rather not wade into a crowd. Good for dogs that need a proper off-leash run in a contained space rather than an open oval.
