Koolbardi Park Fenced Dog Park

Koolbardi Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash park on Bishopsgate Street in Carlisle, run by the Town of Victoria Park and split into separate large-dog and small-dog sections. It sits inside a bigger community reserve with a playground, barbecues and picnic tables, so it works whether the dog is the main event or the whole family comes along.

The dog setup

Both enclosures are fenced with latched gates, so dogs are off-leash once inside while owners stay in and keep them under effective voice control. Grass and sand underfoot give way to an obstacle course with tunnels for dogs that want a job, plus a sandpit for dedicated diggers. Water points, shaded seating and public toilets round out the facilities, and parking sits right by the entrance.

Outside the fenced sections, in the wider reserve and near the playground, dogs go back on the lead. Clean up as you go and carry spare bags in case the on-site dispensers are empty.

Worth knowing

The turf has been through remediation in recent years, and during closures the council has pointed users to other off-lead areas such as John Bissett Reserve in East Victoria Park. If the main run is busy with weekend families, the separated sections keep things manageable, but weekday mid-mornings suit a dog that prefers space.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 64 Bishopsgate Street, Carlisle, a straightforward drive off Orrong Road or Leach Highway. Carlisle and Oats Street stations on the Armadale line are both a 10 to 15 minute walk away, and buses run along Orrong Road.

Close by with the dogs

Laika Coffee in neighbouring Lathlain roasts its own beans and is well used to dogs under the tables, an easy finish to a play session. Social Manna on Albany Highway is another dog-friendly alfresco option.
