Laika Coffee

Laika Coffee sits at 11 Lathlain Place in Lathlain, between Perth's city and the Burswood peninsula, and has made its name as one of the area's most reliable dog-friendly cafes. The draw is a roomy courtyard and alfresco area backed by serious coffee, roasted in-house.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the spacious outdoor alfresco and courtyard, where water bowls are typically provided. Keep the lead on, and note that inside is service animals only. The courtyard is popular, so mid-morning on a weekday is the version where your dog gets space from the neighbouring tables.

The vibe

The kitchen, run by former Hylin and Mano e Mano owners, turns out high-end brunch fare: a brisket benny, crumpets, rosti and creative toasties, with the banana bread a fixture. Coffee is roasted in-house on Timely Coffees beans, and the whole room runs on a casual, community-first rhythm. It trades 6am to 2:30pm every day.

Pepsi: do the park lap first. Lathlain Park's big grassy grounds and Rayment Park are minutes away, so the dog arrives pleasantly flattened and sleeps through the brunch queue.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking sits on Lathlain Place and the surrounding residential streets, and the cafe is an easy walk for Lathlain and Victoria Park locals. Arrive early on weekends to sort both parking and courtyard seating without the wait.

The Koolbardi Park Fenced Dog Park at Carlisle handles the off-lead run, and the Swan River foreshore loop adds a long flat walk nearby. For other tables, Cafe Eighty2 and Sonder Coffee are both in the wider Victoria Park area.
