Sonder Coffee

Sonder Coffee is the bustling neighbourhood cafe on Albany Highway in Victoria Park, pouring Five Senses coffee from 5:30am on weekdays and known for generous acai bowls and an unusually warm welcome. It is one of the few local spots that takes dogs on the footpath and inside, which makes it a genuine all-weather option in the suburb.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the front outdoor seating and inside with you. There is no dog fee, just keep your lead to hand and your dog settled while other patrons come and go. Water bowls are usually out, and treats appear from time to time for well-behaved regulars. It is a small, busy room, so a dog that is comfortable around foot traffic will do best here.

The vibe

Long macchiatos and oat milk coffees get a consistent mention alongside the jumbo breaky wrap, and the portions generally err on hearty. There are acai bowls and smoothies for the warmer mornings and a gluten-free slice in the cabinet. Weekdays start early, 5:30am to 1pm, with Saturday from 7am and Sunday from 8am, both wrapping at noon. Go midweek if you want a table easily; weekends draw a queue.

Getting there

Short-term street parking runs along Albany Highway and the side streets, and Transperth buses up the highway make it an easy stop without a car. The Albany Highway strip either side is pleasant for a lead walk before or after.

Close by with the dogs

For a stretch after coffee, the Railway Dog Park gives the dogs a proper off-lead run a short drive away, and the Perth Foreshore trail is the scenic option across the river.
