Adams Reserve on Milton Crescent in Preston is a tidy neighbourhood pocket park with an unfenced off-leash area, made up of two roughly 60-metre squares joined together. It is best thought of as a spot for quick leg-stretches and local socialising rather than a long outing.

The rules. Dogs may run off-lead under effective voice control, but must be on-leash in the surrounding area until inside the designated zone. Keep dogs off the playground equipment and its soft-fall surrounds. Carry a leash and pick up after your dog; bins are provided, but bring spare bags. Remove your dog if it shows aggression or fear.

What's there. Benches for owners, several waste bins, and moderate tree shade that thins out in the afternoon sun. There is no fence.

Getting there. Limited street parking along Milton Crescent. Preston station (Mernda line) is within walking distance, and the 86 tram on Plenty Road is a short walk via the side streets. It sits close to Bell Street.

No fence and Bell Street nearby, so this is a recall-first park. New-to-off-leash dogs do better here in the quiet midday window before the regulars arrive.

When to go. Busiest weekday mornings and late afternoons plus weekend mornings, with a friendly regular crowd. Late morning to early afternoon mid-week is the calmest.
