Ford Park Fenced Dog Park

Ford Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced, 24 hour off-leash yard in the south-west corner of the Ford Park sports reserve at 244 Banksia Street, Bellfield. Double gates, lighting after dark and a long gravel-and-grass run make it one of Banyule's most reliable dog spaces, and popular enough that timing matters more than the drive.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies inside the fenced yard only; the rest of Ford Park, including paths past the playground and picnic areas, stays on-lead. There is no separate small-dog enclosure, so all sizes share the one space and owners need to step in early if play turns rough.

Water fountains with dog bowls, benches and shade trees are inside the yard, and poop bags plus bins are supplied. Public toilets sit in the broader Ford Park complex rather than within the fence.

Worth knowing

The yard runs roughly 130 by 35 metres with a central access path and double gates at each end, so there is room for a proper sprint rather than a circle of sniffing. Established trees give genuine wind and sun cover.

If your dog is small or timid, peak after-work hours bring the big dogs out, and a quieter morning slot is the safer first visit.

Pepsi: one shared yard means no small-dog refuge. I read the room at the gate before committing, and mornings beat the 5pm crowd every time.

Getting there

The dog park sits off Banksia Street in Bellfield, with parking accessible from Oriel Road. Local buses run along Banksia Street if you are arriving on foot or by public transport.

Close by with the dogs

Ivanhoe is minutes away and makes the natural coffee pairing: Bambino Coffee Bar and Lucci Eatery both take dogs at outdoor tables.

If Ford Park is crowded, the unfenced ovals of Seddon Reserve and Sparks Reserve are fallbacks for dogs with solid recall.
