W. R. Larkins Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

W.R. Larkins Reserve is an open green space on Murray Road in Preston, running alongside Darebin Creek. The off-leash area is unfenced but bounded by the creek and paths, and the setting makes it good for combining a run with a longer leashed creek-trail walk.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash in the designated area under effective control. They must be on-lead within 10 metres of playgrounds and on the shared-use Darebin Creek Trail. Carry a leash and pick up after your dog; bags and bins are provided on site. Remove your dog promptly if it shows aggression. Standard Darebin off-leash conditions apply, so confirm current signage on arrival.

What's there. A spread-out playground, public toilets, on-site parking, established trees for shade, and direct access to the Darebin Creek Trail for on-leash walking.

Getting there. Drive in via Murray Road off Plenty Road or Albert Street. The 86 tram on Plenty Road stops nearby with a short walk down Murray Road, and the Darebin Creek Trail passes right through the reserve for those on foot or bike.

When to go. Busiest weekend mornings (around 8 to 11am) and weekday late afternoons (around 4 to 6pm). Weekday late mornings are more relaxed for a nervous dog.
