Princess Gardens Off-Leash Area

Princess Gardens is a small neighbourhood park off Hoddle Street in Prahran, tucked between Chapel Street and Williams Road, and its defining feature is a deep grassy bowl. The natural depression works like a soft-walled arena: high-energy dogs get a semi-contained space to run, chase and socialise without straying far, and owners can watch from the benches ringing the rim.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-lead in the designated area under effective control, and you must carry a leash at all times. Keep dogs out of the garden beds, the playground and any sports ground while it is in use. Picking up after your dog is mandatory, and bags and bins are provided in the off-lead area. There are water taps for dogs on site, which saves you carrying a bottle in summer.

Worth knowing

The bowl fills with regulars on Sunday mornings and weekday mornings and late afternoons, which is great for social dogs and less so for nervous ones. Weekend lunchtimes and midweek are the quiet windows. It is a compact site, so expect close-quarters play rather than long-distance recall work.

Getting there and parking

Street parking sits on the surrounding streets, including Hoddle Street and St Edmonds Road. The 72 tram on Malvern Road and the 78 tram on Chapel Street both stop close by, and Prahran Station is walkable, so this one is easy without a car.

The coffee options are strong for a post-run feed: Hobba on Malvern Road welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables, and Fourth Chapter on High Street keeps dog treats behind the counter.
