Howe Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Howe Reserve is a narrow, urban off-leash strip in Port Melbourne, running south of the light-rail tracks near Ingles Street. It is a linear grass reserve popular with locals and commuters, with 24/7 off-leash access across the whole space, which makes it a handy stop rather than a destination run.

The rules. Off-leash applies throughout, with dogs kept under effective voice control at all times. The reserve is only partly fenced and sits close to Ingles Street, so solid recall matters here more than most. Keep clear of the bocce court when it is in use, and clean up promptly.

What is there. Water taps, bench seating for owners, and a bocce court. There are no public toilets on-site.

Getting there. The reserve is near the corner of Ingles Street and Station Street. Street parking is usually available along Station Street, and it is a short walk from the 109 tram line and the surrounding residential streets.

When to go. Quietest mid-morning and early afternoon on weekdays. It fills briefly during commuter peaks, roughly 7.30 to 9am and 5 to 6.30pm, and the tight layout can feel busy fast on sunny days.
