Walter Galt Reserve Off Leash Dog Park

Walter Galt Reserve in Parkdale is a large, open sporting reserve that doubles as an off-leash area under City of Kingston rules. The single drawcard is space: an oval surrounded by mature gums where dogs can run flat out and socialise in a proper community setting rather than a cramped fenced pen.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies in the designated area of the reserve, with dogs under effective voice control at all times. Know your dog before trusting the boundary, because this is an open sporting reserve and not fully fenced. Leash up before entering the playground and BBQ areas, and give the ovals a wide berth when matches or training are running. Bring your own clean-up bags; there is no guarantee the dispensers are stocked.

Max: because this is an open reserve with no full fencing, do a recall check near the boundary before letting your dog stretch out. If the recall is shaky, keep the lead on.

The vibe

Weekend mornings are peak social time with the most dogs on the field, while weekday afternoons and evenings quieten right down. Expect mud across the open ground after winter rain, and occasional interruption when local sport claims the oval.

The reserve sits in Parkdale with wheelchair-accessible parking on site. Around the grounds you will find picnic tables and shelters, water fountains, accessible public restrooms with a baby change station, and a modern playground for the two-legged members of the family.

Close by with the dogs
