Burlington Memorial Park Fenced Dog Park

Burlington Memorial Park Fenced Dog Park occupies a sloping grass corner of Boundary Road in Northmead, about ten minutes north of Parramatta. The off-leash area is a single fully fenced enclosure with a double-gated entry, open around the clock, which makes it a dependable pick if your dog needs secure fencing rather than an open reserve.

The dog setup

There is one shared yard for dogs of all sizes rather than separate small and large sections, so confident dogs with reasonable manners do best here. Around five benches and a few shaded spots give owners somewhere to sit, and waste bag dispensers are provided, though carrying spares is never a bad idea. The enclosure runs up a hill, so expect a bit of a climb back to the gate at the end of a session.

Worth knowing

The park has no lighting, so after dark you are working off street light from Boundary Road, and there are no public toilets on site. Some guides list a dog water tap at the base of the hill, but council's own park listing does not confirm one, so bring a bottle and bowl rather than counting on it. The grass is not drained, so expect mud for a day or two after heavy rain.

Max: one big shared yard means no small-dog escape route if play turns boisterous. Read your dog early and be ready to clip the lead on and step out.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Boundary Road, close to the Cumberland Highway interchange. Bus routes 600, 604 and 706 stop nearby, with Parramatta and Westmead stations the closest train hubs if you are connecting by bus. The wider Burlington Memorial Park also has a playground and a small skate park, so the rest of the family has something to do while the dog works the fence line.

Make a day of it

For a coffee stop on the way home, Coffee Embassy Bar in Northmead keeps a dog friendly welcome. If you want to rotate parks, Barnett Park Fenced Dog Park at Winston Hills and Dan Mahoney Reserve Fenced Dog Park at North Parramatta are both short drives away, and Lake Parramatta Reserve adds an on-lead bushwalk option.
