Dan Mahoney Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Dan Mahoney Reserve at 75 Gladstone Street is one of the larger fully fenced off-leash parks in the Parramatta area, and the reason to bring your dog here is the double-gated entry and a separate pen for small or timid dogs. It is a busy, social ground rather than a quiet bush walk.

The rules. The main oval is fully fenced with double-gated airlocks, so escape risk is low even for a bolter. Keep your dog in sight and under voice control, pick up after them, and pull out any dog that is not coping with the crowd. Restricted and dangerous breeds are not permitted in off-leash zones under the NSW Companion Animals Act.

What's there. A large open grassy field, a dedicated smaller enclosure for timid or little dogs, water bubblers spaced through the park (including one in the small-dog section), bench seating, some shade, and perimeter waste bins. The main oval has floodlights that run into the evening, which makes after-work visits workable.

Getting there. Free street parking is generally available in the surrounding residential streets off Gladstone Street. Local buses run along Church Street and Victoria Road nearby; use the Transport NSW trip planner to map your connection.

When to go. It is busiest during the weekday after-work rush and on Sunday afternoons. For a calmer session with a nervous dog, aim for mid-morning on a weekday. Good for social dogs with energy to burn, and the separate pen means smaller dogs are not stuck in the scrum.
