Dam Wall Lookouts

The Dam Wall Lookouts sit inside Lake Parramatta Reserve, off Wilmott Street, and give you a seated view over the dam wall and freshwater lake a few minutes from the Parramatta CBD. Dogs are welcome on-leash on the walking tracks, which is the fact that decides whether this suits your day.

The rules. Dogs must be leashed at all times and kept to the established walking tracks. The reserve is a wildlife protection area, so keep your dog away from birdlife and reptiles, and clean up and bin the waste. Dog swimming is not on offer here; the designated swimming area near the visitor hub is for people, not pets.

The walk. The dam wall is reached on the Lake Circuit, roughly 4.2km around the water, with shorter branching tracks if you want less. The main lookout near the car park is relatively easy underfoot with seating; the wider tracks are uneven and have some grade, so factor that in for an older or small dog.

What's there. A free car park at the end of Wilmott Street, public toilets, a picnic and playground area at the entrance hub, and The Container cafe at the track head with dog-friendly outdoor seating.

Getting there. The address is Wilmott Street, North Parramatta. By car, come via O'Connell Street onto Wilmott Street. By bus, routes from Parramatta Station towards Pennant Hills Road drop you within a walk of the reserve.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quietest. Weekends, public holidays and warm spring and summer afternoons draw crowds and fill the car park, which makes the narrower tracks congested. Good for a leashed bush walk with a dog that is steady on uneven ground.
