LJ Lewis Reserve Fenced Dog Park on Stirling Street in Northfield is one of Adelaide's better thought-out off-leash setups. Run by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and open around the clock, it is fully fenced and split into three separately gated zones, which changes how visits go: you can match the space to the dog instead of gambling on whoever is already inside.

The dog setup

The three zones are an all-dogs area for general off-leash play, a small dogs section for the lighter breeds, and an individual dog area reserved for one dog or family at a time. That solo pen earns its keep for reactive dogs, recovery after surgery, or training sessions away from the crowd. Entry runs through double-gated airlocks, and off-lead applies within the fences. Council's conditions are the standard ones: stay in the park with your dog, keep effective voice or gesture control, leash and leave if a dog turns aggressive, and use the provided waste disposal. A drinking water fountain serves the park, though carrying a backup bowl is never wasted.

Worth knowing

This is a popular park, and peak times mean several dogs arriving at the gates together, so work the airlock patiently. South Australian dogs must be microchipped and registered to use public spaces. The broader reserve holds a children's playground, shaded picnic shelters, BBQs and daytime public toilets, so dogs stay leashed in the wider reserve until you are inside a fenced zone.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Stirling Street, Northfield, just off Grand Junction Road, with on-site parking including accessible bays near the entrance. The car park fills at peak times. Council buses along Grand Junction Road get you within a short walk if you are coming by public transport.
